EVINRUDE E-TEC™ DOMINATES NATIONAL BREAM CLASSIC GRAND FINAL
Sydney Harbour was the setting and Evinrude E-TEC™ was the power of choice when 20 teams gathered for the grand final of the Sydney City Toyota National Bream Classic staged in conjunction with the Sydney International Boat Show.
It was a triumph for Evinrude E-TEC™, with the first five place-getters all choosing the engine with the best power-to-weight ratio in its class. 70% of the clean engines that were used in the tournament were Evinrude E-TEC™ - what a result!
The grand final was the culmination of a seven month tournament; that started in Sydney in February, moved to Victoria, Port Macquarie and the Gold Coast prior to the Sydney ‘shootout.’
Twenty teams qualified for the grand final, fished within the confines of Sydney Harbour, between the Silverwater Bridge and the Sydney Heads. With more than $150,000 in cash and prizes on offer, competition was hard fought, with little separating the leading contenders.
Chris Cleaver and Joel Teggart (Team Squidgies) were the eventual winners, their Haines Hunter Pro-Strike powered by a 150hp HO Evinrude E-TEC™ leading the way, with another identical rig crewed by Mark Dunphy and Craig Simmons (Team Shimano) taking second and Bill Karayannis and Richard Robson (Team Sportfish), their boat sporting a 200hp Evinrude E-TEC™, in third place.
Rugby league legend and television personality Andrew ‘ET’ Ettingshausen (sponsored by BRP and Evinrude E-TEC™) and team mate Brett Wilson (Team Club Marine), also aboard a Haines Hunter Pro-Strike with an Evinrude E-TEC™ 150hp, managed fifth place behind Joe Crust and Brent Delaney (Team Anna Bay Sand and Earth Moving).
Tournament organiser, Neil Ryan, said the Evinrude E-TEC™ engines proved ideally suited to the rigors of tournament fishing. Clever though simple design parameters mean fewer parts and longer engine life, with reliability and durability ‘built in’ to every engine. The end result is that the angler can maximise their quality fishing time on the water.
These technological advancements have also achieved minimal emissions, lower fuel consumption and quieter running allowing fishermen to feel content that they are minimising their impact on climate change.
With Evinrude E-TEC™ being the quickest to the plane and with the fastest top speed in its class it’s no wonder the team of Cleaver and Teggart got to the biggest fish first!
